Exploring the Beautiful Flores and Komodo Islands of Indonesia
If you’re looking for an adventure-filled vacation, you might want to consider the Komodo Islands and Flores in Indonesia. I recently went on a 10-day trip to explore these islands, and it was an absolute thrill. From hiking up volcanoes to swimming in clear waters, this trip had something for everyone. Come join me as I share my unforgettable experience through the gorgeous Flores and Komodo Islands.
Introduction
My trip to Flores and the Komodo Islands of Indonesia was nothing short of incredible. The raw and untouched feel of this region coupled with a friendly local population and natural beauty made it a one-of-a-kind place to visit. Allow me to take you through my 10-day adventure and share some of the highlights of the trip.
Snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters
We began our trip with a boat ride to the beautiful Manta Point, where I got to witness giant manta rays swimming under the crystal-clear blue water. The experience was something that I will never forget! We not only saw manta rays, but also some colorful fish and lovely marine life. We then stopped at a few other snorkeling spots in the area, including Pink Beach and Kanawa Island. The corals were undoubtedly breathtaking, and the marine life felt out of this world.
Hiking Volcanoes and Natural Trails
We hiked two volcanoes on the trip – Mount Kelimutu and Mount Ijen. Mount Kelimutu presents an incredible sight with three separate caldera lakes – Tiwu Ata Bupu (sometimes known as the Lake of the Elders, Tiwu Ko’o Fai Nuwa Muri (Lake of Young Men and Maidens), and Tiwu Ata Polo (Enchanted Lake). It was a challenging hike, but the views from the top of the mountain were worth the effort. We also hiked a natural trail at Cunca Rami, a waterfall hidden away in a canyon filled with greenery.
Witnessing Komodo Dragons
The highlight of the entire Komodo Island trip for me was seeing Komodo dragons in the wild. These massive creatures are truly awe-inspiring. We were fortunately there during the breeding season when they are known to be more aggressive and territorial. We saw them in their natural habitat attacking and eating a water buffalo. It was a scary sight, but a unique one, and I was thrilled to have been able to experience it.
Raw and Untouched Feel of Flores
While Flores is not as famous as Bali, it still is a stunning Indonesian island. It has a raw and untouched feel about it, which adds to its authenticity and charm. The people there are exceptionally friendly, and the island is home to a variety of unique cultures. From the beautiful beaches to the rice paddies and volcanoes, Flores offers a little bit of everything for nature enthusiasts.
