Recently, a group of friends embarked on an African expedition through Kenya, taking in the breathtaking beauty of the country and its people. Arriving in Kenya

After a long flight, we finally arrived in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. We were met by our local guide, who took us on a tour of the city before heading out on our first adventure. Nairobi is a great place to start your Kenyan adventure, as it is the gateway to national parks and game reserves.

Journeying to Mount Kenya

We headed north to Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro. The mountain is an extinct volcano with three peaks, a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful lodge at the base of Mount Kenya, with stunning views of the mountain.

At dawn, we headed out on a hike to the summit, enjoying the sound of the birds and the breathtaking landscapes. The hike is challenging, but the views are worth it. We highly recommend hiring a local guide for this hike, who will navigate the terrain and provide historic context along the way.

Experiencing Masai Mara National Reserve

Next, we travelled west to the Masai Mara National Reserve, which is famous for its wildebeest migration, big cats, elephants, and giraffes. We spent several days exploring the vast reserve and witnessing wildlife in its natural habitat. One of our favourite moments was witnessing a river crossing, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras crossed the river, dodging crocodiles and hippos. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we highly recommend adding it to your bucket list.

Exploring Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park

After an adrenaline-filled adventure in Masai Mara, we travelled to Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake with a variety of birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans and cormorants. We took a boat ride around the lake and saw hippos and zebras.

Hells Gate National Park is a hiker’s paradise, with towering cliffs, geothermal activity, and stunning landscapes. We highly recommend hiking the Fischer’s Tower and visiting the Olkaria Geothermal Spa.
